You are now a Christian, a person who is capable of seeing and understanding spiritual truths. And here’s some really great news: Jesus has given you all the spiritual resources you need to understand the Bible because you now possess “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). A Desire to Grow Have you ever thought about what life would be like if you failed to grow physically? Maybe you’ve already had a few major growth spurts, and you’re nearly six feet tall. That wouldn’t be such a terrible thing.

It’s anything that displeases a holy God. Read the following verse, then circle the kinds of actions that God wouldn’t want you to do: Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind (1 Peter 2:1). What action does God want you to take? Here are quick definitions for each of these sinful actions: Malice means desiring to inflict harm or suffering on another person. Deceit means concealing or altering the truth. Envy means wanting what someone else has. Slander means making false or evil statements about another person.

What does that mean? Think of it this way: As you read through your Bible, picture yourself driving down a highway and looking at the road signs. Each road sign will give you a little bit of information about what lies ahead. As you pass more and more signs, you get a more complete picture of everything that is ahead of you. In the same way, as you make your way through the Bible, you are able to get a more and more complete picture of what God wants you to know. So in the Old Testament, we see how God works in people’s lives, and we see His plan for the future unfolding.
